Chrin Brothers, Inc. and PPL Renewable Energy can finally heave a sigh of relief as they have finally overcome their final obstacle in realizing their gas-to-electricity power plant. This $8 million renewable energy project has taken around a year to complete with the continuous tug of war between the state authorities and the companies. PPL has constructed a huge renewable Glendon Borough Green Energy Park and Chrin’s landfill for providing methane gas needed to generate clean electricity.
The project required a long route of methane gas pipeline to be built from the source (landfill) to the Glendon energy park. This eco friendly project had state supporting it financially with a $1 million grant. Chrin contributed the same amount and the rest of the money was provided by PPL (an active investor in biogas projects across the US). The methane gas is produced from the garbage that is decomposing inside the landfill, which eventually gets piped to the plant where it is turned into electricity. Initially, the plant would be producing approximately 25 million kWh annually which would be enough to cater to the electricity requirements of 2200 households.
As they say development begets growth, the same is the case with this project as Chrin wants to take it to a higher level by luring industrial companies to utilize the electricity produced by the plant as the firm owns six other plots in the park. The Government is in full support of Chrin’s move as it will not only attract industrial growth in the area, but is also eco friendly at the same time. A lot of care is also being taken to assure that the facility would not cause noise pollution.
This power plant producing electricity from methane gas is a great initiative to switch to a more greener and eco friendly source of power. The Government support also has a big hand in realizing this project which demonstrates that government intervention and support can truly encourage such green dreams for the future.
