Casa Azul – A dental hospital close to nature

Hospital Casa AzulHospital Casa Azul is a proposed project by Bernadette Martinez for building a dental hospital that particularly provides expertise for children suffering from cleft palate. The hospital would be located in Monterrey, in northeastern Mexico and is known for its rather hot weather. The high temperature of Monterrey is perhaps what suggested the architect to come up with a very unique design that would bring it closer to nature. Hence, the main idea is to bring a glimpse of nature across to every room on every floor through large windows! Behind each big window is encased a beautiful and strikingly real picture of greenery – luscious grass and swaying trees – giving each room a very soothing and tranquil appeal.

The building would essentially have two floors wherein the first floor would be housing the administrative department and the various dental rooms for visiting patients. The second floor would house six patient rooms for critical patients and three operating theaters. The operating theaters would be the germ-free or sterile zone.

Not only would the beautiful window canvasses provide a feeling of being one with Mother Nature but the general temperature of the room would be equally cool and soothing. This would be possible due to the incorporation of adobe blocks used for the construction of the hospital which function in deterring the heat to enter the inside of the structure. The south facade of the hospital will be covered with vines and climber plants running across the southern walls – which will provide more protection from the heat. Likewise, the green roof is another way in which heat reduction within the premises would be accomplished.

The whole building will provide a very natural and mesmerizing environment to its patients – particularly children – who enjoy reveling in the beauty of nature.
