Bicycle Road: An alternative modular road that will exclusively cater to cyclists

Bicycle Road

We have come across numerous conceptions that inherently deal with modes of transportation. But, what about the important mediums which our transportation system is based on? Yes, we are talking about roads, and how their state intrinsically affects the efficiency of the whole vehicular domain. Progressing along these lines, French industrial designer Inès Le Bihan has conceptualized the Bicycle Road system. As the name suggests, it will be an alternative modular route parallel to the main road, exclusively for bikes.

The designer has thought of a modular road pertaining to its simple construction process. The whole system calls for small square shaped panels joined to each other to form horizontal sections. These sections will have a small cavity along their width line, so that they can be connected with metal fasteners inserted in the side cavities. Now, a series of such sections can be arranged along the road surface to form a full-fledged parallel route for bikers. Moreover, the flexibility of the fastening mechanism will help the rigid panels to cope up with the natural undulations of the road.

The ‘road’ can easily be assembled and disassembled by linear application of the panel sections. This certainly saves the tax payer’s money for all those substitute routes for bicycle enthusiasts. Furthermore, a more direct approach that follows the main road itself can inspire fellow gas guzzlers to take up zero emission bicycling as their healthy hobby.
