Australian town may produce drinking water by recycling sewage!

water woes in australia

Drinking water by recycling sewage! Yes, an Australian town will vote this week on whether they’re prepared to do this, not out of being environmentally concerned, but to find a solution for the drought-stricken condition in the area.

Once the residents vote, the scheme would be the first such one in the country and one of only a handful in the world. Pumping purified wastewater back into the main reservoir making it safe for drinking would cost $55 million.

The proposal is naturally a controversial one and has divided the town of Toowoomba in the state of Queensland. It has faced water restrictions for a decade.
