Doing business has never been quicker. Instant access to information, innovative services and online commerce means that busy consumers now expect a variety of service levels that cater to their demands for speed and simplicity. Kiosks are playing their part in providing instant services to the customers and are normally found everywhere, but there is a special one in this field as well – ‘A green Kiosk’. Olea’s green Kiosk is made from an organic waste material and is scheduled to debut at the 97th Annual National Retail Federation (NRF) convention and Expo in New York this January.

The kiosk will be running Experticity’s On-screen Expert software and will be powered by IBM’s latest generation IBM AnyPlace Kiosk. The kiosks main structure is built entirely of an engineered panel made from Sorghum plant. Sorghum plant is grown around the world for food production. The plant stalks are dried, and heat pressed using a non-toxic adhesive to form the board product. The stalks of the plant are not used in food production and would otherwise be thrown away. Though Olea have no plans to put the kiosk into production it is hoping to spark an interest in the self-service industry to start thinking green. The kiosk can be seen in IBM’s booth in the Green Pavilion at NRF January 14-15 in New York.
