Concerns for tap water contamination are always on the rise across the world, especially the underdeveloped countries! A new finding can bring in a sigh of relief to this – i.e. using an activated-carbon filtering pitcher is the most effective way for reducing disinfection by-products in tap water.
Funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, the results of the study were published in the scientific journal Water Research’s recent edition.
It has been found that the filtering pitcher can reduce one of the major drinking water disinfection by-products–trihalomethanes — by even 92% after a 48-hour period or the treatments.
