True, the lawns of any New Jersey community can boast about lush grass and clipped shrubs. But, how would it be if they can grow a bit more environment-friendly? The yards of the Mansfield’s Homestead will go greener by saving water – i.e. by recycling toilet water!
Don’t worry! Before being pumped into Homestead’s irrigation pond, about 140,000 to 160,000 gallons of flushed toilet water, along with water from shower and sink drains will be cleansed at the village’s upgraded sewage plant. This irrigation pond, in turn, will feed its system of underground sprinklers.
Joe Lawrence, president of the homeowners association said,
When we have a dry spell, it (the pond) kinda runs out, so this is a good thing for us.
