Here is a great alternative solution to global warming or vehicular emissions – that can go hand in hand with manufacturing green cars – by making the traffic lights help reduce traffic jams!
How would it be, if a network of traffic lights decides to turn green when lots of cars are waiting? Seung-Bae Cools of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium and a team of researchers have designed traffic light systems that are coordinated centrally, acting autonomously to optimize traffic flow.
With the system synchronizing green lights into ‘green waves’, it will allow cars to flow through the main avenues of cities without facing a red light – hence reducing both traffic jams and carbon emission levels and ultimately global warming.
