We at Ecofriend are continuously getting you closer to all the breakthroughs in the field of environment science and believe us we don’t even get time to take a break all day long. The reason is the continuous development of products the promise to make our planet a better place to live in.
We have been telling you about clean and ecofriendly ways to generate electricity. These ways included wind and sun. Now here is new technique to generate electricity by harnessing the energy of tidal waves.
Generating electricity from water is not new and you all must have seen many dams that are able to generate gigawatts of power. These systems though efficient cannot be termed eco-friendly because all that goes into making these huge structures is not a great friend of Earth.
This technique makes use of tidal waves to turn a turbine that generates electricity. The system is almost similar to wind turbines, but here the flow is of water not of wind. The first such system has been developed by SeaGen. The organization has tested this technique for years and will be installing the system in August.
The 1.2 mw system will be installed in Strangfond Lough by the company. This is the last test phase after which large scale installation will occur.
What kinda impact will these systems have on the sea life is yet to be seen. We hope that fishes don’t mind any turbines running in their home!
