Nanotechnology helps better the color and cost of solar cells

solar cells made from nanotechnology

Researchers at the Ohio State have developed a new technique that not only reduces the cost of solar cells to a quarter but also makes them beautiful. These solar cells come in pink and are called Dye Sensitive Solar Cells of DSSCs.

These solar cells make use of a mixture of ruthenium and either titanium of zinc oxide particles to absorb sunlight. This material absorbs sunlight but there is no way by which they can transfer this power. Here is where nanotechnology comes in. Nanowires are implanted in the cells which serve as connections between the cells on the panel.

Till now the team has succeeded in producing half the power that one gets from conventional black solar cells. To better the cost and the efficiency of these cells researchers will try and make use of Nanowire trees. Till now we have not received any notification as to when they might hit the market.
