Wash2O: Detergent-less washing machine promises clean clothes and environment

wash2o

Have you ever imagined a washing machine that does not need a detergent to clean your clothes…? I guess, not, but anyone well versed with the phenomenon of electrolysis might know that it can be done.

Actually, we use detergents not to clean clothes but to better the chemical makeup of water so that it can easily remove the stains. Detergents break water into H+ and OH- ions. This new washing machine dubbed Wash2O does the same without any detergents.

This amazing washing machine is able to clean clothes with a slightly basic solution, and then sterilize them with a slightly acidic solution. After your clothes are clean, this water is mixed back together to its original that is pH neutral.

The idea seems cool and the price tag of just $1,000 isn’t even much, the main thing to be checked out here is what the power requirements of the machine are. Obviously, it won’t work on the same power as your normal washer since it makes use of electricity to split water molecules into its constituent ions. The machine will be successful if there is not much change in the power requirements, but if the difference is more then all what we would be saving by not dumping harmful phosphates into the rivers will not be enough to call this a ‘Green’ washing machine.
