Its things like these that make me wonder why someone didn’t think of using wind and solar power in high-rise buildings before. The Clean Technology Tower concept created by Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill proposes to have wind turbines positioned at the corners of the building to harness the high-velocity winds that accelerate around the top of the tower.

A domed double roof cavity positioned at the apex of the tower will also direct the wind towards a lot of wind turbines positioned at lower levels. The designers plan to use the negative pressure created by the turbines to ventilate interior spaces within the building while the dome itself will be shaded by solar cells that will aim at capturing the southern sun. The tower, at this pint in time, includes over 1.8 million square feet of office space along with a 300,000 square foot hotel, a spa and street-level retail rounding off the complex.
