manufacturers come up with green concrete

CERATECH, Inc. was founded in 2001, and based in Baltimore, MD, with corporate offices in Alexandria, Virginia. It is a worldwide designer, manufacturer and supplier of engineered, high performance cements for the Department of Defense, construction, transportation and pre-cast concrete industries.

CERATECH’ is particularly renowned for its ‘green’ material technology, which made its debut in 1996 in an effort to utilize waste streams in commercially viable concrete repair materials. The combination of inert minerals and various waste streams produced a unique cement-like material characterized by a highly flexible base chemistry with extremely unique properties and performance attributes.

Last summer was a significant time in CERATECH’s achievements when it came up with something that substantially replaced traditional Portland cement, which accounts for six to eight percent of human generated CO2 in the environment, with reclaimed fly ash and slag. Very recently, W. R. Grace & Co. has invested in CERATECH’s ‘green’ technology, earning exclusive rights to market Ceratech products and technology in the manufactured concrete market. This brought Grace as much in the news as CERATECH.

However, CERATECH is not the only one who has come up wth ‘green’ concrete. Another new concrete have been spotted which consists of titanium dioxide, a compound that becomes chemically active in sunlight, called TX Active cement. It effectively neutralizes air pollutants such as benzene, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, and etc. This might find advantageous use to purify air breathed by children in schools situated near highways.
