Using a 55-gallon steel drum as a metaphor for artists trying to create aesthetic or geopolitical statements about society, the Oil Drum Art exhibition opened the neighborhood sustainability initiative, SEED (Smart Environmental Efforts in DUMBO) in Dumbo (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overhang) Improvement District in Brooklyn NYC today.

With a range of activities and programs to engage stakeholders of all ages through an assortment of topics and hands-on activities, the initiative takes forward the Oil Drum Art that was first launched in New Haven, Connecticut in 2003.

The grass roots art movement has since spread across the world via the internet and aims at further educating its audiences about the potentially threatening social, political and environmental nuances pervasive in the mass psyche and the art world’s adherence together as a global brotherhood and their collective efforts towards a cleaner, green future for the masses.
