Eco Factor: Living Wall with over 10,000 individual plants.
Designers at Green Over Grey have created North America’s largest living wall at the Semiahmoo Public Library and Royal Canadian Mounted Police Facility in Surrey, British Columbia, which features over 10,000 plants covering an area nearly 3000 square feet. The self-sufficient hydroponic vertical garden is attached on a frame with waterproof panels and is built and attached to the wall at a fixed distance, allowing air circulation without any damage to the building.
The frame also consists of lights and an automatic irrigation system that provide water and nutrients evenly to the plants without wasting any water. In addition to the regular air purifying benefits of plants, the designers state that the living wall can also reduce electric bills in winter by up to 20 percent while reducing summer temperature by as much as 7 degrees Celsius.
