Audi manages to set tongues wagging and people impatiently wait for new releases by the brand. Here, to set roads on fire is 2012 Audi A8 Hybrid which was made public recently. It has been given a green signal for production that will begin in the year 2012. The stunning coupe was unveiled in Geneva last year as a technology study, but they are out with the final specs that are a little different from the concept. The beautiful drive will be received well by people and give tough competition to gas-guzzling beasts.
Audi A8 Hybrid combines an electric engine with a 2.0 liter TFSI petrol engine. The TFSI unit and disc shaped electric motor have the potential to produce 155 kW (207bhp/ 211 PS)/ 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) of torque and 40 kW (54hp)/ 210 Nm (154 lb-ft), respectively. They will produce a combined total output of 180 kW (245 PS/241 bhp) and a torque of 480 Nm (345 lb-ft). This power will be delivered to wheels at the front by hybrid transmission. The beauty will be an emission-free ride when it rolls using electric power till a speed of 62 mph. It delivers a range of 1.86 miles when moving at a steady speed of 37.28 mph.
The driver will be endowed with the flexibility to choose from three drive modes: the ‘EV’ setting, ‘D’ mode and ‘S’ option. EV setting favors economical driving and gives priority to the electric drive, while the ‘D’ option couples the power from both the electric motor and the gas-engine. On the other hand, the ‘S’ option along with tiptronic gate push the stress towards optimal acceleration. It is the first time that Audi has wedged a four-cylinder engine option in any of its models. The lithium-ion battery will be positioned in the boot and will weigh 36.7 kg. The attention-grabbing hybrid will be one of the lightest creations in its category, thanks to its lightweight construction. The Audi Space Frame body is crafted from aluminum, while only B-pillars will be made of steel that make the whole construction rigid.
The coupe can jump from zero to 62 mph in 7.7 seconds and can touch a top speed of 146 mph. Audi A8 Hybrid has an outline worth drooling over. It will come fitted with LED lights, metallic paint and subtle detailing that will manage to fetch a lot of attention.
