If speed and environmental friendliness is what you’re looking for, then the Neil Saiki-designed all-electric motocross motorcycle is the vehicle you need to get your hands on. The developing process of the Zero X began five years ago. A by-product of Zero Motorcycles, this is an EV that weighs up to 140 pounds with the lithium-ion battery (40 pounds), 23-horsepower motor and is available for $7,450. Since electric motors produce torque, the Zero X powers instantly when you snap the throttle, like a light switch with an on/off button. Switch to high-speed mode and you get unregulated acceleration to about 57 mph. It can hit 30 mph in under two seconds and 57 in about twice. The bike has hydraulic disc brakes and has a fully adjustable suspension and can recharge in about two hours using any household socket.

Saiki, known for his degree in aerospace engineering, has previously designed bicycles for Santa Cruz, Haro and Mountain Cycles, so something like this coming from him is certainly not a surprise to anyone! Since April around 127 bikes have been sold and since then there are lots of people still on waiting list, the majority of the buyers being motocross riders. Future plans include a street version that can reach speeds of 70 mph and a range of 60 miles with a price of $9,000. This bike is no play-toy and is geared to deliver inexorable performance and durability with no noise—unlike traditional dirt bikes—making this an ultra-cool clean speeding mobile!
