Zenga Sport’s new Solar-powered Ski Collar

Environmental fashion has hit a high point with this new gizmo. This detachable ski collar is equipped with solar panels to charge most 5V to 6V electronic gizmos and gadgets while supplying inbuilt pockets to carry them all in. While I must say this is a nifty little thing and pretty cool looking, I’m not sure Zenga is on the right track with this gadget. True, it its environment friendly and will keep you charged wherever you go, it doesn’t appear to be sturdy enough for the terrain and occupation with which it was designed for. And with it going for a monstrous $995, those skiing accidents will probably cost you a lot more than you think.

The ski collar isn’t a real development in solar technology – It’s more like a fad. A fashion statement, that’s not of much environmental importance. A gadget like Multipurpose Solar Charger is far more useful than Zenga’s offering, but at a much lower price of $150 (albeit only being a bit bulkier and harder to carry around). The Windup iPod Charger is yet another example, priced at a mere $18. I’d only recommend this device to very well paid gadget freaks, but as the rest of us, we will probably be waiting for something better.
