Fashion house Chanel dared to tread the unconventional path and came up with Mobile Art to exhibit work inspired by the quilted handbag, the “2.55,” for “February 1955” when it was designed by Coco Chanel. This exceptional traveling project epitomizes Chanel’s revolutionary spirit. Motivated by Karl Lagerfeld and shaped by Zaha Hadid, this futuristic structure was intended to circulate for two years throughout Asia, the United States and Europe. And now New Yorkers can rejoice as this nomadic fashion museum is going to be stationed at Central Park’s 1.5 acre Tumsey Playfield (midpark at 70th Street) from October 20 to November 9, 2008. Already wooing folks in Hong Kong and Tokyo, in U.S. it will serve as a mini-museum or gallery to showcase the curated work of fifteen contemporary artists. It is also estimated that Chanel will donate a sum “in the low seven figures” to the Central Park Conservancy as well as a “use fee” of $400,000. Ok, so you are wondering why is this squat like, white structure with a fashion background doing on Ecofriend.

Actually the fact that it is moveable and can be housed in various continents without leaving its permanent footprints may appeal to some eco-fashionists.

Also it is believed that funds donated for the project will be used to enhance the horticulture of the park in specific zones north of 85th Street.

So we can see some styled greenery in and around that location!
