Eco Factor: Sustainable residential tower to harvest rainwater and solar energy.
Mumbai-based Lodha Developers has announced that the firm will partner with New York-based Pei Cobb Free & Partners and Leslie E Robertson Associates to develop the world’s tallest residential skyscraper in Mumbai, India.
Dubbed World One, the 117-story tower will be built on a 17-acre site. At more than 450 meters tall, the tower will be taller than the Empire State Building in New York. The World One complex will include two more towers and shall offer 300 exclusive 3-4 bedroom flats, lavish villas with private swimming pools and a few duplex suites as well.
Construction work on the $425 million complex is slated to commence in a couple of months and the complex is expected to be completed by 2014. Each housing unit in the building will cost upwards of $1.5 million. The key eco-friendly measures incorporated in the high-rise are 100 percent water harvesting and recycling system, VRV air-conditioning system and the use of solar energy for common areas and heating, which collectively will cut energy consumption by over 40 percent.
