Eco Factor: Solar photovoltaic facility produces up to 80 megawatts of electricity.

Clearly eclipsing the 60 MW Olmedilla Photovoltaic Park in Spain with a more quantifiable solar power generation capacity, the Sarnia Solar facility in Ontario has now become the world’s largest solar photovoltaic facility. Officially completed last month, the facility is now generating 80 MW of electricity.

Being a joint endeavor of Enbridge Energy and First Solar, the facility utilizes First Solar’s thin-film panels to keep its carbon footprint to the minimum possible. The facility has signed a 20-year contract with the Ontario Power Authority toward selling the power output, i.e. 120,000 MWh per year, to the latter.
