Wind and solar powered micro-platform

eco friendly platform

The Cutter micro-platform is pumping natural gas efficiently. Sited on a marginal-production gas field underneath the southern North Sea, the micro-platform of Royal Dutch Shell is no ordinary one in respect to contributing towards the environment.

It is powered by wind and solar energy! Is not the idea innovative and energy efficient? A mono-post supports the unmanned platform. And it is based on offshore wind-turbine designs. The platform measures eight meters square, and is powered by a pair of small wind turbines and a pair of solar panels.

Thus, along with its providing green power, the use of this renewable energy generation equipment reduces the cost of providing a sub-sea cable to power the platforms i.e. operating energy costs. For the next 15 years, the produce will be in the range of 3 million cubic feet per day.
