Westborough Primary School upgraded with sustainable options

Westborough Primary School

Renowned architecture firm Cottrell & Vermeulen has recently finished an additional construction in Westborough primary school. The school is located on the Westcliff-on-sea in UK. While making the additions, the company has also tried to make such provisions which help in reducing carbon emissions to a significant level. The new building does not look odd along with the old brick laden structure.

Cottrell & Vermeulen Architecture is a known name in the field of education as the firm has developed many award winning buildings so far for various educational institutes in UK and has also worked for UK Government Department for Education. The firm has worked on many sustainable designs so far and has won accolades for ground-breaking concepts and their execution.

The school authorities decided to renovate the existing structure to minimize the construction and subsequently reducing carbon emissions from the premises. The rehabilitation model used by Cottrell & Vermeulen is an exemplary model for other such institutes for reducing carbon emissions to a great extent by employing renewable energy sources and lighting controls as much as possible.

The canopy of the building has been designed to integrate solar cells. The PV cells are installed in such a way that they face the sun to derive maximum solar energy. To encourage the community for using the renewable sources of energy, a counter has been installed which displays energy savings done on a daily basis.
