Wenergy – Efficient living area educates inhabitants about their energy consumption

Recent studies have shown that in spite of being more ‘eco-conscious’ ordinary folk still tend to spend more energy than required. One of the plausible attributes in favor of this problem may be that they are not comprehensively informed about the energy levels they themselves are wasting. So, in a conscientious bid to rectify this situation, the team of Taco Langius, Guldal Aydinli, Andersson Peter, Casteleyn Bieke and Chan Mei-Lin has come up with a unique solution – Wenergy.

Wenergy is basically a domestic landscape i.e. a living area incorporated with two basic components. The first component allows the interior spatial element to identify the energy resource flow within the house, and the second component influences the residents to participate in clean energy generation. For example, they can get to know the amount of energy and water they have expended in a month. If the levels of the resources are reduced, the residents are encouraged to bring the level up by producing energy on their own account.

To accentuate upon the green aim, the ingenious system will include prepaid electricity and water services, so that users can identify and regulate the magnitude of energy levels. As for generating ‘personal’ energy, there will be an advanced floor integrated with piezoelectric materials, which can produce energy from physical movement upon it by the residents or from furniture wobbling on it.
