I always thought that the Submarine technology was pretty cool and when viewed in a isolated fashion of just using air tanks, was pretty clean too. Of course, there is enormous amount of energy involved in all of that, but this is without a shadow of a doubt quite simple the greenest submarines that you will ever see. (That was as imperative as I could make it). The Submarine that you see has been crafted at home by a Chinese dude from nothing beyond old metal barrels that are useless and other metal crap that you find lying around. Now I have seen Jackie Chan do some real crazy stuff, but this is better!
Tao Xiangli made the 1.6 tons submarine mostly from metal barrels and improvised parts by hand. Metal barrels are possibly the best material for him to work with as he says, because of their low cost. The 20ft submarine is cramped inside with room for only one person but it features pressure meters, monitoring cameras, a TV set, oxygen supply and those headlights for maybe going to the Reef at night! Now that is really cool recycling.
There are plenty of artists and designers out there who put great effort in creating recycled art and I love that too. With all due respects, this totally rocks! This is taking recycling and making it not just look classy or adding a great new meaning to it but doing something that is almost unimaginable. Tao really set the benchmark now and you at home can try and beat it with your great recycling idea. By the way, do we get ESPN on that TV under the ocean on Saturday nights?
