Wear more organic cotton

organic cotton dresses

As the word organic cotton suggests, it is cotton which is cultivated without the use of toxic pesticides and insecticides. Although, the production of organic cotton is not new, it is only now that it is certified as organic.

Do you know that in order to produce sufficient conventional cotton to make one tee shirt and a pair of jeans a whole pound of pesticides and fertilizers are used? A pound that’s right! By adding so much of pesticides the conventional cotton does not remain so pure and soft anymore.

Unfortunately, organic cotton is not easy to grow, using chemicals not only increases the yield by about 20 percent, but it also standardizes the quality. No wonder organic cotton is so expensive.

But you must be wondering why we need to wear more organic cotton. Well, numerous studies have shown that residuals from chemical processing can be absorbed through the skin (this is especially of importance for pregnant mothers, babies, and small children). This is the reason why, organic cotton is mainly used for making babies/children’s clothes and underwear.

Organic cotton is good for us and good for the environment too, since the land and soil is preserved. Crop rotation is mostly used by farmers to grow organic cotton.

So the next time you want to buy a cotton dress, do look for the organic certification, because remember even the clothes we wear have an impact on the environment. Though expensive, wouldn’t you want to make your planet a little more greener?
