Eco Factor: Energy efficient light bulb saves up to 70 percent energy.

With concerns about energy efficiency on a rise, consumers are being encouraged to make use of new lighting fixtures and appliances that help save energy and also reduce utility bills. Incandescent bulbs, which ruled the lighting market for decades, are set to be gone from the markets in a couple of years as the replacements are already on the shelves.

CFLs and LED bulbs are already famous but engineers at Vu1 Corporation have come up with yet another alternative. The company has launched a new light bulb that promises to save up to 70 percent energy compared to incandescent bulbs. Christened the ESL or Electron Stimulated Luminescence, the bulbs use accelerated electrons to stimulate phosphor to create light.

The first units out of the factory will be able to replace conventional 65W incandescent bulbs common in most households. With five times the life of a traditional bulb, the ESL will cost around the same as compact fluorescents.
