Everything these days is stretching vertically upwards and that is everything except me. Buildings are getting taller and taller and with lack of horizontal space many believe that vertical farming is the way to go for the future. While it is hard to argue about both the lack of space horizontally and the availability of it vertically; it is still a concept that really is too spectacular on the drawing board and is yet to make such a vivid and markedly impressive impact in the real world. Here is a look at this modern technique derived from the ancient world.
New York magazine asked four architects to dream up proposals for a lot on Canal Street and Work AC came up with this unique and special design. The design is both unique and special. It is like a terrace stretching in to the sky and underneath the giant staircase is plenty of space for selling what has been grown on top. It is both and ecologically and economically sound design with space for both production and marketing. I can only imagine how advertising firms would line up to get a space on this one!
Vertical farming has garnered plenty of support and interest in the past few years. It is no surprise that many think that it is a very viable and probably essential option for the future. I hope we do not get to the day when we only have vertical farms as we do have a tendency to over-do something that works. Here are snapshots of some more stunning and interesting concepts.
