There have been many exciting propositions that cater to our optimum usage of renewable sources of energy. But this extraordinary project comprehensively stands out from the rest, in its serious bid to replicate nature itself! Designer Anthony DiMari has come with an inspiring solution that addresses the core issue of our very sustainability – energy generation and conservation in a natural way. The conception, which was a finalist in the SHIFTboston contest, incorporates a whole piezoelectric field of artificial trees that could generate electricity and harvest rainwater.
Named as the Urban Field, this turf includes synthetic trees that can absorb water from rainfall and underground water table. These technologically advanced ‘trees’ can also harness the wind energy, which can power LED lights during night.
But it’s not all about the trees. The turf is also specially designed to utilize solar energy and water storage to their full capacity. Moreover the field orientation was integrated in such a way so as to benefit from the maximum level of wind power. And talk about innovative landscaping – at last but not the least this field doubly acts as a well defined ‘green’ urban park.
