‘Underground’ radio to save lives trapped in mines, collapsed buildings, subways…

underground radio

It can help save life of miners. It is a prototype radio, a communication device. Thanks to David Reagor, a physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), the innovative brainchild of this communication device. This radio works at depths of 500 feet!

It is based on very low frequency electromagnetic radiation and digital signal processors. A commercial version of it in work could effectively be used by workers trapped in a mine! Even the firefighters and other emergency workers can use it for communicating with people in collapsed buildings or subways.

This device is of effective use for incidents like that of the recent Australian gold mine tragedy, where two miners survived for more than five days trapped deep in the mine!
