UK’s famous pool roof recycled for roofing holiday cottages

holiday cottages in the coniston area

One of the UK’s most famous swimming pools gets a new lease of life – a green life. The Blackpool’s Derby Baths building fought desperately to keep the Fylde Coast rain off. However, it was in 1988, the 1920s building reached the end of the line.

The baths’ roof tiles, which were made from green Westmorland roofing slate, have now gone full circle. But, the part that hits the headline of ecofriend, is its being getting returned to the Lake District. It is where these roofs will provide roofing for holiday cottages in the Coniston area.

Coppermines, the company responsible for the cottages, acquired it. The company accuired those during the demolition time –18 years ago. But, it is only now, that the roofs hade been put into place, as the planning concerns were met recently.

Philip Johnston, the boss of Coppermines said,

As we’re committed to reclamation and recycling we have always used items like reclaimed timber in our buildings and bringing the Westmorland Slate back to this area tops’ our continual conservation work within Coppermines.
