TX Active: Cement that absorbs pollution

bag of cement

Here is a cement that is capable of absorbing pollution created by vehicles. Italcementi, an Italian company has begun marketing this cement, after spending 10 years for developing it. The new building material is named TX Active.

According to the company, TX Active is capable of reducing urban pollution effectively, by more than 40 percent. This is reported by the Italian news agency ANSA. It hs also been tested on a road near Milan. And the result shows that TX Active can cut the nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide level by as much as 65 percent. It is amazing in the lines of decreasing pollution effectively and sustainably.

It is a chemical process called photocatalysis, by which it functions. In the process, when titanium dioxide on the cement’s surface is exposed to air pollutants, sunlight triggers a chemical reaction. Moreover, it is in bright sunlight, TX Active works most effectively.

A number of buildings, including Air France’s new headquarters at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport, Rome’s Dives in Misericordia church and Bordeaux’s Hotel de Police have used TX Active cement. Independent bodies like the National Research Council have verified the test results, Italcementi informed.
