It seems Green has become a new fashion statement for the rich and famous. It gives them the much needed attention on the Page 3 news. Whether they really care about the environment is something better not discussed. But the Ikea generation is all for it if the fashion demands so. Such people become hot properties for the retailers who are always on the look out to sell products in the name of environment.
Televisions with wooden cases thronged the 50’s market. It was more for fashion and show offs by those who could afford them. A Swedish manufacturer SwedX, has taken on the same concept by giving the flat screen TV a sleeker makeover.
Complete with all the high definition features of a conventional flat screen like in–built free view tuners and even with the use of sustainable materials (the 100% recyclable materials are claimed to be forma sustainable forest), the Tree V isn’t a completely carbon neutral product.
The 19-inch widescreen is priced at $350 and is available online with Dixons and will soon be available with Currys. Aimed at the armchair environmentalists, the retailers are hopeful of carving a niche with this natural looking product the only problem is that it still has the energy guzzling stand by mode.
Whether Tree V addresses the environmental issue is purely a personal judgment but it surely will adorn the living room with its retro look.
