This LED flashlight will last 80 years on a single charge

battery with 80year life

Running out of batteries for the flashlight can soon become a thing of the past if William Henry has his way. An applications specialist at Ireland’s Tyndall National Institute, Henry got his team of researchers to developed a way to make a lamp from micro LEDs that will shine on for over 80 years with a single charge. The light measures only 15 microns across (compare that with a standard 300 micron LED and you see how tiny thing really is!) and requires only a few billionth of an amp to operate and emit light literally through a man’s lifetime once you fully charge its coin-sized battery. I guess this would make flashlights and lamps the next best heirloom pieces after family diamonds!
