First ever ‘Solar – Hydrogen House’ running completely on homemade energy

ydrogen house

A civil engineer named Mike Strizki lives in a solar-hydrogen house. This house is first of its kind and is an ensemble of amazing technology.

He has put together solar panels, a hydrogen fuel cell, storage tanks, and a piece of equipment called an electrolyzer. The system converts electricity generated from renewable sources into hydrogen. On sunny days, solar panels on the roof of Strizki’s detached garage generate more than enough electricity to power his home. The excess electricity powers the electrolyzer, which transforms a tank of water into its base elements – oxygen and hydrogen. This set up provides year round power to his home. His utility bill is zero!

The oxygen is released into the atmosphere, while the hydrogen is stored in 10 1,000-gallon propane tanks on Strizki’s property. In the winter, when the solar panels collect less energy than the home needs, that hydrogen is piped to an air-conditioner-size fuel cell, located just outside the garage, which generates electricity.

The system is amazing because it creates no greenhouse gas emissions. He even has a fuel cell car which runs off the same system. Although experts say that Strizki’s system is not suitable for widespread adoption any time soon, still he himself is of the opinion that nothing is too difficult or expensive to save the environment.
