The days of the humble light bulb could soon be over!

If you think LED lights are not bright enough to light your room/house, then its time to amend your thinking, as researchers have found a way of making the devices much brighter without using any more power. The idea is to make microscopic holes on the surface of the LEDs to increase their brightness without increasing the energy consumption. Researchers at the University of Glasgow are using a technique called the nano-imprint lithography to etch microscopic holes on to the LEDs, allowing more of their light to escape. LEDs not only use less power than current energy efficient light bulbs but they are much smaller and can last years without needing to be replaced, this means the days of the humble light bulb could soon be over!
