Omnivore is certainly the most appropriate name that could have been coined for this engine. It’s a collaboration between Queen’s University Belfast, Jaguar Cars and Lotus. This multi-fuel engine can run on almost anything and is said to maximize fuel efficiency when running on renewable fuels. It operates on two-stroke cycles, unlike the four-stroke ones used in most petrol-powered cars. The sole purpose of this engine is to find a technology that would run on both petrol and alcohol, overcoming the incompetence of today’s motors.

This bio alcohol fuel sluicing engine has a higher octane rating than regular gasoline, which offers more power, but with the ability to lower compression to allow running on lower-grade fuels as well. Also it gains the high mpg and sustainability without losing the convenience of the established gasoline infrastructure, which is superb! The new engine will be unveiled in the new Lotus Exige 270E Tri-fuel as part of the Lotus’ research into running mixtures of alcohol fuels and gasoline. It’s about time that the automotive industry focused on its environmental obligations to reduce CO2 emissions and improve efficiencies. Lotus engineering is definitely going to be in strong demand and this phenomenon will also lead to many other bio-fuel chronicles!
