Eco Factor: Sustainable guest house uses passive solar techniques for energy efficiency.

Designed by Miray Oktem, the Sustainability House is a proposal for a short-term guest house for visiting scholars in Eskisehir, Turkey. The building is to be designed on the site of an old wine factory and consists of nine residential units of different sizes and features a storage facility, a courtyard and a bar/lounge.

The building has been designed with sustainability and energy-efficiency in mind. The interior walls of all the units are tilted toward the south to get the most out of the sun. Large skylights have also been integrated to let in natural light and heat during the day, which is released during the night to reduce the temperature difference between day and night.

The north openings are glazed with transparent insulation to reduce heat loss through windows. The northern side of the roof is also covered with drought-resistant cover to protect the building from north winds and prevent water run-off.
