Stepping stone solar cells posses superior absorption potential

Folks like you and me are satisfied with using the basic solar cells that are all over the place these days, to prove our green spirit. Not realizing that there’s much more to such solar cells. But a group of scientists from Spain wanted more out of such conventional cells and hence came up with a new kinda solar cell material called as the Stepping stone solar cells. Not content with the absorption limit of 40% from the usual solar cells, the scientists developed this innovative material that can supposedly absorb both visible and infrared light, giving it a theoretical absorption limit of 63 percent.

Also vanadium and titanium was added to a semiconductor, perhaps silicon, to alter the chemical properties and be able to create the intermediate level needed to attain a higher efficiency. This makes up for the limitation of the conventional ones that could only absorb visible light and wasted sun’s infrared light. Certainly has an edge over the conventional ones as we can charge our gadgets, cars for longer periods.
