Recently we heard Stephen Britt’s ingenious creation the “Fast Forward Powered Pedals” making it to the finals of Barclays Bank’s “Take One Step” contest. Now, there is news of his invention winning the Barclays’ innovation award. He has received £50,000 cash to move his electrically powered bicycle pedals to prototype stage.

The pedal kit comprises of a pair of battery-powered pedals that replace your standard pedals and provide you with assistance to get you up hills, or carry heavy loads. This low cost, environmentally friendly kit for cyclists incorporates a motor, gearbox, Li-po batteries and a control board. It is the responsibility of the sensors to detect the effort as one pedals through his way and provide the necessary assistance. Let’s hope to see this ingenious concept going into production soon.
