LED technology and LED chandeliers have gotten pretty popular, but this is a spectacular addition to the regular line. This one though is not just another addition to the line, but is a bright and brilliant architectural jewel in the already spectacular LED crown. The entire product line seems to be getting larger, but this is more and artistic piece that is the modern vision of a brilliant artist who obviously loves to play around with both form and function. ‘OR’ is going to go down as something special in the ‘Green designs folklore’
Or is an installation which will be erected in a courtyard in the centre of Milan for the Milan Furniture Fair 2008. The clear segments of the shading device turn coloured when hit by direct sunlight; at night solar energy captured by the surface during the day powers LED’s scattered on the surface, turning Or into a photovoltaic chandelier. The structure is more like a gravity defying glass monument or w wonderful and glittering furnace. It would be very interesting to see how the artist/engineer came up with this splendor.
The project was carried out in collaboration with Ran Ankori, Francesco Brenta, Maya Carni, Christoph Klemmt, Laura Micalizzi and Elisa Oddone and it sure must have taken more than one skilled person to transform the vision in to reality. This truly is going to win some green design awards for sure, hands-down. But more importantly it will stun anyone who looks at it for the first time and that is truly the gratifying moment for the artist and his team.
