Islam Fikry Abbas of Port Said University from Egypt has proposed an idea of Space Race Museum. It is a unique concept developed with the purpose of bringing out the detailed description of outer space exploration during the cold war between USA and the Soviet Union. It is a very good example of sustainable architecture, which is about developing environmentally friendly architecture. In this concept Abbas has used different techniques so as to reduce energy requirements in the building and increase building’s capability to generate its own energy.
Space Race was a competition or a race between USA and Soviet Union for dominance in outer space exploration, between 1957 and 1975. During cold war, both United States and Soviet Union were striving for having an upper hand. Space exploration gave them a perfect opportunity to show their potential and superiority in scientific and technological field. This changed the scientific education system completely.
This space race proved very beneficial for scientific advancements and led to development new technologies. It helped in improving aerospace engineering and communication technology. New ways of communicating with each other came into existence. One of the most interesting developments was that we could study our planet from outer space. It showed a fragile picture of our planet which helped in increasing awareness of people towards the environment.
The space race museum is a cultural museum concept which will show the history regarding outer space technology advancements. The museum has been designed in an environmentally friendly manner. The sustainable museum features the use of photovoltaic panels adn wind turbines to generate onsite renewable energy. Moreover, the sustainable architecture also includes a water recollection system to help in conserving water. Surroundings have been well embedded with museum, giving it an exquisite look. It makes it look like a perfect and an appealing destination for history lovers.
