Eco Factor: Solar electric powered rickshaw for green postal delivery in India.

A rickshaw that was developed back in 2008 has impressed the Indian Postal department to such an extent that it is now being launched as a green postal delivery vehicle in India. Dubbed the Soleckshaw, this rickshaw uses solar electric power to run. According to a survey, a postman travels 40-45kms daily and carries a weight of 10-15kgs daily and this rickshaw is being seen as making their jobs lot more simpler.

The battery-powered and pedal assisted dual powered tricycle is result of Council of scientific and industrial research’s ingenuity and innovation. Now it has been redesigned by Kinetic Motors as a light delivery vehicle for India post. Capable of hauling a load of 200kgs, this green vehicle can go up to 50kms on a single charge. Its batteries are charged at charging stations that are solar powered.

The postman can pedal his way to his destination and use battery power to go uphill. The battery of the Soleckshaw can also be used to charge mobile phones and play an FM radio. There are plans to deploy nearly 1,000 soleckshaw’s in New Delhi for this year’s commonwealth games.
