Eco Factor: Artificial tree sculptures to harness energy and rainwater.

Portuguese designer Vasco Pinto Alves believes that the growth of urbanism has led to fast receding green cover, which is irreplaceable in the current scenario. To reduce the effects of this environmental loss, the designer has come up with a nature-inspired concept that provides energy, water, shade and also clean air just like natural trees do.

Christened the WARP or Water and Air Recycling Pad, the system is draped in photovoltaic panels that generate renewable energy. Moreover, a water collector has also been included to harvest rainwater. The system also includes seasonal algae that consume atmospheric CO2 to produce bio-diesel.

A single structure includes 4 algae aquaria, photovoltaic panels and a water collector, which collects and filters rainwater. The solar energy generated by the system is utilized to power a set of LED light for nighttime illumination and to recharge electric cars that are parked underneath.
