Soap nuts to put an end to the use of detergents!

Soap is an inorganic substance and despite it being of such great daily use, once soap is used and that water is flushed down the drain, it causes damage to the environment. Washing clothes with detergents that promise that they remove any and every stain is also pretty bad for the nature as a detergent that works so well must contain some really harsh chemicals. But a brilliant and wonderful little invention can reduce all that pollution of water. It is called “E-Wash” and its designer has indeed taken the help of Mother Nature to save the planet.

The E-Wash uses a natural product called ‘Soap Nuts’ which can be grown anywhere across the planet. These nuts can act as soap and clean the clothes-a process that has been in use in India and China for many centuries. Levente Szabo, from Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Hungary, has integrated this ancient method with modern technology to give us an eco friendly way of washing clothes. He designed the E-Wash as a washing machine exclusively aimed at using nuts to wash your clothes.

While the soap nuts can be used even in existing machines, it has many drawbacks. The E-Wash nut only is programmed to release the nuts into the washing chamber at the right instant, but is also designed to make sure that no pieces of nuts are left over after the process finishes. This design has been picked as the winner of Green Designs contest of Electrolux and the company says that one can actually find this in market in a couple of years. Sooner the better, I say.
