Singapore to get its first public CNG refueling station by Jan 2008

ready by jan 2008 9

In the global effort to go ‘green’, Singapore does not seem to stay behind in the list of environment-friendly countries. January next will be witnessing Singapore’s first publicly-accessible CNG refueling station.

Thanks to Smart Automobile, who will be building and operating the eco-friendly fueling station on a 30-year lease. The company is already running the country’s first and the largest fleet of CNG taxis.

The new station will be serving all CNG-fueled vehicles running on the Singapore roads. Following the 2008 launch, the company aspires to provide the country with four more CNG stations in next three years. Serangoon North will be getting one of the stations, which is scheduled to be up and running by next September.

Though Johnny Harjantho, Managing Director of Smart Automobile is optimistic about this ‘greening’ project, the doubt remains on how many people will be inspired to convert their cars or buy the OEM CNG cars in Singapore.

The chances of the convert will rise, depending on how heavy it may fall on individual’s pocket. So, the cost factor remains key to the ‘greening Singapore’ success.
