Eco Factor: Hydrogen-electric hybrid bus emits no carbon dioxide, or sulphur dioxide.
Singapore stands just one-step away from getting its first fuel-cell bus and the guess who will be the first fortunate passengers. Well, the athletes coming for the Youth Olympic Games will be driven in this green vehicle to the Youth Olympic Village where they will be staying.
Developed by engineers from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and China’s Tsinghua University, the hydrogen-electric hybrid bus is a viable option because it provides very significant emission reductions. The 72-passenger, single-deck vehicle will be seen running a total of 80 km a day, four days a week. Using hydrogen to run the bus emits no carbon dioxide, or sulphur dioxide, which contribute to acid rain.
