Now scientists at the British Isles would be exploiting the lunar power to tap energy in a cheaper way. True, the gravitational pull of the moon on our oceans create strong tidal flows, enabling engineers to tap them with undersea turbines. But, it is not an easy task maintaining underwater tidal mills!
To overcome that, Swanturbines’ engineers went innovative designing a simplified tidal mill that is capable of minimizing the risk of problems.
Eliminating the moving parts and control sub-systems of its mills on the surface, the Swansea-based team avoided the tidal mill’s vulnerable parts from harsh sub-sea environment — thus, eliminating the elements that more likely require regular maintenance or repair.
And hence it results in a cheaper and more versatile solution to the existing ones.
