Combining their proprietary solar (photovoltic) modules and high-intensity, long-life white LEDs, Sharp are all set to launch a revolutionary street lights in the Japanese market come August 21. Christened the Sharp LN-LW3A1 Solar-Powered LED Street Light, the public lamps are apparently the world’s brightest and equal the light output of a regular 32-W fluorescent security light that uses six CFLs. The great thing about the new light system is that is combines a Seismic Motion Sensor that detects the occurrence of a major earthquake measuring 5 or greater while delivering full brightness during nighttime hours for two days. Ideal for spot lighting in areas such as public parks, the lights are expected to serve primarily as emergency lights in case of a power interruption. With a lifetime of 10 years, the zero maintenance street light certainly seems like a lamp for a greener future.
