Wind energy is something that is both under utilized and maybe even under estimated because it is so freely available. I have always wondered why fast moving trains and even vehicles have not used the kinetic energy of the wind to create new energy the drives the engine. Maybe the design is not aerodynamically compatible or maybe it is just not cool, but it has so far not been seen on the road. But we will see wind the Super turbine on ocean vessels and we will see it in a brand new fashion.
This all new wind turbine is probably as modern a design as you will ever see for the turbine. It is sleek and slender. Yet its very strong presence assures you that you would always harness the energy of the wind. This futuristic wind turbine could be more of a help than a hindrance when your ship meets a storm.
The advantages of this design are many. First, during large and fierce storms, these deep water turbines may intentionally lay down by flooding chambers, or even completely submerge to survive. Second, flotation near the surface forms a fulcrum, with the weight of the rotors and driveshaft balanced by a downward force from the mooring below. This allows the turbine to bend similar to arching your back to take advantage of wind patterns much more easily. Additionally, the rotors can be staggered, spiral, or in line. The turbine is really cool and maybe it will make it to commercial market too.
